1 dead, 3 cops injured in grenade blast in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A man believed to be high on drugs was killed and three members of the Philippine National Police’s Special Action Force were wounded in a grenade explosion in Barangay (village) Pasonanca here on Monday night.
Efigenio Julian Jr., the village chief of Pasonanca, said residents of Andico Drive started to evacuate as early as Monday morning after hearing gunshots.

“In the morning, there were indiscriminate firing coming from the house of Rudd Mendoza Andico. Residents were in fear and they started evacuating,” Julian said.

At past 5 p.m., police received reports that Andico was armed and was high on drugs.

While negotiating for the suspect to calm down, Andico allegedly pulled off the safety pin of grenade..

Three of the policemen were wounded. Andico, on the other hand, was killed in the blast.
