Fire hits Tayabas City residential area

LUCENA CITY – A fire of still unknown origin broke out at a densely populated area located at the back of the public market of Tayabas City in Quezon province Saturday morning.

Fire Officer 3 Milagros Calvelo of the Tayabas fire station said the fire started at around 9:15 a.m. at a shanty community at the back of the market in Barangay (village) Angeles of Tayabas, about 11 kilometers from Lucena City.

Citing information she received from a radio conversation with colleagues at the fire scene, Calvela said the blaze has been placed under control about an hour later.

The woman firefighter, who was manning the station, said she has yet to receive a report about possible injuries or damage to properties.

Firefighters were still at the fire scene conducting an investigation, she added.
