Another typhoon has entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), but it is not expected to have any effect on the country because it is too far away, according to the state weather bureau.

Typhoon “Goring” (international name: Halola) was spotted by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) inside the PAR on Thursday, 11 p.m., at 1,320 km east northeast of Basco, Batanes.

Pagasa said the typhoon was initially seen northeast of extreme northern Luzon.

According to weather forecaster Samuel Duran, the typhoon has maximum sustained winds of 145 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 180 kph. There were no public storm warning signals raised.

However, Pagasa still warned of moderate to heavy rainfall within 300 km of the typhoon.

There will be cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Bicol and Quezon Province, while Metro Manila will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms.

Northern Luzon will experience moderate to strong winds blowing from the southeast to southwest, with moderate to rough coastal waters.

Goring is expected to be outside the PAR by Friday.
