A tandem involving Vice President Jejomar Binay and Sen. Jinggoy Estrada in the 2016 presidential election?
While Vice President Binay’s political party United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) has yet to consider it, the UNA interim president, Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco, said the detained senator could be part of the party’s options.
“(We) haven’t received any indication from Senator Jinggoy (about that), but we will study our options based on President (Joseph) Estrada’s statement,” Tiangco said in a text message when asked if the younger Estrada was being eyed as Binay’s running mate.
Manila Mayor and former President Joseph Estrada had earlier said in a television interview that he would not stop his son, now detained at the Camp Crame custodial center in connection with the pork barrel scam, should he decide to run with Binay.
Binay, who like Senator Estrada is facing corruption charges, has formed a search body to look for a running mate in next year’s national election.
The presidential contender had mentioned several names as his possible running mate, but was publicly turned down by most of them, including Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, Sen. Grace Poe and Manila Mayor Estrada.
