Vilma Santos: Grace Poe ‘ready, willing’ to become president

Three-term Batangas governor and actress Vilma Santos-Recto believes that Senator Grace Poe has the track record and the desire to serve the Filipino people should she decide to run for president in the 2016 elections.

“Alam naman natin na she’s very efficient and very competent at kung ano man pong balak niya, palagay ko ay meron naman siyang track record na kakayanin niya, at willing siya to really serve our people,” Santos-Recto said in an interview on Radyo Inquirer.

(We know that she’s very efficient and very competent and whatever position she will pursue, I think she has the track record. She is ready and willing to serve our people.)

Santos-Recto said that while she is supporting Poe on her 2016 plans, she emphasized that the Filipino people will be the ones to decide if the neophyte senator will be the country’s next leader.

Poe has kept mum with regard to her 2016 plans, adding that she is still finalizing her decision on whether or not she’ll seek higher office.

Meanwhile, the Batangas governor said that whether Poe will run for president or not, it is important that the people will choose a leader who can serve the Filipinos well.

She also emphasized that citizens should cooperate with the government to achieve progress.

“Kung siya man, magiging presidente o lahat ng bagay, ang eleksyon po ay sandali lang eh; ang importante makapili tayo ng leader na masasabi nating na talagang makakapagserbisyo po ng mabuti sa ating (mga) Filipino.”

“I think ang pinakaimportante lamang ay teamwork. Kase ang eleksyon sandali lang; at the end of the day, itaas natin ang bansa,” the actress-politician said.

(Elections are just brief. What is important is that we can choose a leader who will genuinely serve Filipinos. I think teamwork is important. At the end of the day, we need to cooperate for the country.)

Poe, the frontrunner in pre-election surveys, has met with President Benigno Aquino III on various occasions in the hopes of finding a single presidential candidate from the administration-led coalition.

Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, who placed third in surveys, is the presumptive administration bet. With Angeli Mae S. Cantillana/Inquirer.net trainee.
