/ 09:02 PM July 16, 2015

AN administration ally said Senator Grace Poe should give way to Interior Secretary Mar Roxas in the 2016 presidential elections.

In a statement on Thursday, Deputy Majority Leader Jorge “Bolet” Banal said Roxas had been accustomed to giving way and making sacrifices.

Banal recalled Roxas’ ultimate sacrifice in 2010 when the latter backed out of the presidential race in 2010 for then Senator Benigno Aquino III.

The Liberal Party stalwart said Poe being new in politics should seek the vice presidential post in 2016 and then try her luck in the next presidential election in 2022.

“It is still possible that Senator Grace Poe will do a ‘Mar Roxas’, that she’ll give way for a greater goal, while preparing herself to continue “Daang Matuwid” in 2022,” Banal, a Quezon city representative, said.

This as the President hosted a dinner with Roxas, Poe and another contender Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero on Wednesday night. The meeting was seen as way for Aquino to decide his anointed presidential and vice presidential candidates in 2016.

Poe topped the latest presidential surveys, surpassing even Vice President Jejomar Binay who held the lead for nine months despite being hounded by graft raps for alleged involvement in rigging the bidding process for construction projects when he was Makati mayor.

Meanwhile, Roxas is a far third and fourth in the two latest voters’ preference polls.
