A total of 306 members of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) have completed a training program designed to enhance their skills and help them become better law enforcers.
In his speech at the culmination of the training program on Tuesday, NCRPO chief Director Alan Purisima said he was optimistic that this would lead to an improvement in the policemen’s performance when they return to their posts.
“We are certain that they will fill the gap of having competent and effective field forces who will be of great help in resolving cases that we handle,” Purisima added.
Of the 306 graduates, 113 underwent the month-long Special Weapons and Tactics training course at the Philippine National Police School for Values and Leadership in Clark Freeport, Pampanga. The rest, on the other hand, completed the two-week basic tactical rider’s course at the NCRPO headquarters in Camp Bagong Diwa.
The SWAT course was part of a refresher course for police commando units from the five police districts in Metro Manila, as well as a contingent from the NCRPO.
Participants were taught innovative tactics in special operations and counter-terrorism as they also underwent a course on boosting their physical and mental toughness in responding to crisis situations.
Purisima vowed to continue implementing training programs through which police officers would be given more opportunities to upgrade their skills.
“Our efforts to raise the capabilities of the NCRPO police will not end in the culmination of these courses. Expect that more appropriate programs will be implemented for the continuing development of our force,” he said.
PNP Training Service director Chief Supt. Charles Calima Jr., who was the guest speaker, emphasized the importance of training courses for policemen, considering the dynamism in their field.
