Cop shot, wounded 2 brothers in Legazpi City road rage

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines—Two brothers were shot and wounded by a policeman following a heated argument over a traffic incident on Rizal Street, Barangay (village) Em’s Barrio, in this city on Sunday night.

Senior Superintendent Marlo Meneses, Albay police director, said their initial investigation showed that Senior Police Officer 4 Jose Pabilonia, who was in civilian clothes, was on board his motorcycle at around 7:45 p.m. when he figured in a traffic accident with an Isuzu Crosswind boarded by Peralta brothers Jose, 58, and Allan, 51, both residents of Em’s Barrio located along the city’s downtown area.

At the height of their argument, the policeman drew out his service gun, a 9mm Barreta, and shot the brothers who were both inside the vehicle, according to Meneses.

The victims were immediately rushed by bystanders to the government-run Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital, located in this city, for treatment.

Meneses said Abilonia voluntarily surrendered at the Legazpi City Police Station after the incident.

Abilonia is assigned at the regional logistics and research development division of the Bicol Regional Police Office based in Camp Simeon Ola in this city.

“The incident is still under investigation. Until now we still don’t have the details on the wounds sustained by the victims,” Meneses said in a phone interview. TVJ
