Archbishop Villegas reelected as CBCP president

Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas was reelected as the president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

Majority of the 82 active bishops who attended the biannual plenary assembly in Manila on Saturday voted for the second term of Villegas.

Also reelected were CBCP Vice President Archbishop Romulo Valles of Davao, treasurer Archbishop John Du of Palo and secretary general Fr. Marvin Mejia.

Officers of the Philippine conference of Catholic bishops have a two-year term.

The bishops also elected members of the CBCP Permanent Council.

Regional representatives for Luzon are:

– Rodolfo Beltran of San Fernando, La Union
– Ruperto Santos of Balanga
– Gilbert Garcera of Daet
– Bernardino Cortez of Infanta
– Reynaldo Evangelista of Imus

Visayas regional representatives are:

– Crispin Varquez of Borongan
– Narciso Abellana of Romblon

Representatives for Mindanao include:

– Jose Cabantan of Malaybalay
– Angelito Lampon of Jolo

The term of the newly-elected officials will be from December 1, 2015 to November 30, 2017.
