La Mesa Dam placed on red alert; overflow possible

La Mesa Dam in Quezon City has been placed on red alert and residents living near its path were warned of flooding due its possible overflow.

As of 11 a.m. water level at La Mesa Dam was at 79.58 meters, within its spilling level of 80.15 meters, Richard Orendain, hydrologist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Areas to be affected with its possible overflow were Fairview, Forest Hill, Quirino Highway, Capri, Goodwill Homes, Santa Quiteria and San Bartolome in Quezon City; Ligon, North Expressway, and Huerta in Valenzuela City; and Malabon.

Other major reservoirs in Luzon also increased water levels. Angat Dam, which supplies most of Metro Manila’s water supply, was at 169.62 meters as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, or .14 meter from the previous day.
