A Palace official was in a laughing mood on Tuesday when asked about Vice President Jejomar Binay’s accusation that Malacañang was behind supposed plans to impeach him.

“Ha ha! He must be kidding,” Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said in a text message to Palace media.

“The president is governing, he is campaigning,” he said, referring to Binay who has been making the rounds in provinces, way before the 2016 national elections.

Binay has announced his plans to run for president in May 2016 while President Benigno Aquino III has remained mum on who he will anoint as his preferred successor.

“The president seeks to improve the lives of his bosses. He (Binay) is seeking to improve his image, the president is treading Daang Matuwid, VP Binay just made a U-Turn,” Lacierda continued.

Binay has been more liberal in his criticisms against the Aquino administration after he resigned from the Cabinet. Although he has avoided referring to the President, whose family he was close to, he has been hitting other Malacañang officials.

In an interview in Pangasinan, Binay said it was not true that the Palace did not know of moves to ensure his impeachment.
