A recent sidebar report by TIME magazine showing that the Philippines has the highest job optimism in the world was reflective of the Aquino administration’s supposedly efficient economic reforms and policies, Malacanang said on Monday.
Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma said President Benigno Aquino III himself called the attention of Cabinet members in a special meeting regarding the June 15, 2015 TIME report, which ranked Filipinos as the most optimistic citizens in job hunting at 66 percent.
“The President, who is known for his keen observation of the latest economic trends, said these surveys firmly attest to the efficacy of the economic and social reforms of the administration that have resulted to a rapidly expanding job market and a decline in unemployment rate which was recorded at 6.6 percent as of January 2015,” Coloma said in a statement.
The report, titled “Feeling good about finding work,” cited a Gallup poll that covered 130 countries. The Philippines was followed by the United States with 51 percent, India with 34 percent, Venezuela with 22 percent , Sudan with 18 percent, and Italy with three percent.
“In the remaining months of the Aquino administration, the President called on the Cabinet to intensify the implementation of programs that would further bolster the foundations for sustainable and inclusive growth and progress for all Filipinos,” Coloma added.
In May, a survey by Social Weather Stations showed that Filipinos have become more optimistic about the quality of their lives in the past year, and expect it get better for another year. AU
