Tropical storm ”Egay” (international name: Linfa) slightly intensified and slowed down as it moved closer to Northern Luzon on Friday afternoon.
The storm packed maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 90 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Storm Signal No. 1 was raised in Northern Aurora, Quirino, Isabela, Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan group of Islands.
Egay, last located 445 kilometers east of Baler, moved 10 kph north northwest.
The storm will bring moderate to heavy rains within its 400-kilometer diameter.
Pagasa warned fishermen and those operating small seacraft to avoid the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, seaboards of Southern Luzon and Visayas and the northern seaboard of Mindanao.
Residents in low-lying and mountainous areas of Bicol region and Samar provinces have also been alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.
Aldczar Aurelio, weather forecaster, said in a televised press briefing, they are also tracking a storm outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
It is seen to enter the PAR next Tuesday. AU
