MRAIL bags P43.2-M deal to maintain MRT-3 power systems

A subsidiary of the country’s largest power distributor, Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), has bagged the six-month contract to maintain the Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3) power systems.

The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has awarded the P43.23-million contract to MRAIL, Inc.

DOTC said the contract requires MRAIL to maintain the railway line’s power supply and overhead catenary systems (OCS) starting on July 5.

The agency said MRAIL would work parallel with other companies maintaining the other components of the MRT-3, which earlier bagged the following contracts.

DOTC also said that the Over 7,000 lineal meters’ worth of new rails have also been procured to replace the worn-out segments of the line’s tracks to enhance passenger safety.

Other improvement projects such as the new tap-and-go ticketing system which will cut queuing time for passengers and the rehabilitation of all toilets of the MRT-3 line are now underway.

The awarding of maintenance contracts to the MRT-3 came amid the numerous technical glitches that hit the trains operations.
