1 dead, 5 injured in Iloilo road collision

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — A bus driver was killed while five passengers were injured on Wednesday afternoon when a passenger bus collided with a dump truck owned by a town mayor in Barangay Tonocuan, Dingle town, about 30 kilometers north of this city.

The fatality was identified as Ronan Palomo, 35, of Passi City and adriver of Ceres Bus.

Hurt were bus inspector Christopher Urquiola and conductor Joemer Magbanua as well as passengers Helen Padernal and April Rose Dellaba, who were all declared out of danger at the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Iloilo City.

Dump truck driver Alfredo Porra, 40, of Calinog town in Iloilo, was detained at the Dingle police station in Iloilo province, pending the filing of charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injuries.

Senior Insp. Ramon Coreana, Dingle police chief, said the Ceres bus was traversing the national highway of Barangay Tinocuan in Dingle and was bound to Iloilo City about 1:10 p.m. when it crossed the other lane and hit an approaching 10-wheeler truck owned by Calinog town Mayor Alex Centena.
