/ 07:46 AM October 04, 2011

A police officer said he will file counterchangers after he was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill the Naga police chief and pointing his service firearm to pacifiers during a gathering  at the bay walk in barangay East Poblacion, Naga City, last Saturday.

PO3 Romeo Bolaño said his index finger was injured and has to be operated after he was mauled by  Chief Insp. Timmar Alam and his team.

“I did not point my gun at anyone. I’m wondering why they arrested me,” said PO3 Bolaño in Cebuano.

Police said Bolaño,  who was supposedly on duty at the Consolacion police, and Alam were in a party when Bolaño introduced himself to the police chief and went berserk.

Alam said Bolaño, who admitted consuming alcohol during the incident,  started boasting and maligning the Naga police force.

He pointed his firearm  to anyone who tried to admonish him.

Bolaño denied the allegations.

Mayor Valdemar Chiong, who used to play tennis with Bolaño, said he was at the event during the commotion and ordered his men to get Bolaño near him to avoid more trouble.

Chiong said he then went home and left Bolaño with other friends.

Senior Supt. Louie Oppus, Police Regional Office (PRO-7) director, said they will check if Bolaño was carrying  documents with him for his service firearms since he was in a civilian attire during the incident.

Bolaño,  now detained at the Naga police precinct, was relieved from the Naga police force last July after he was accused of having an affair with a policewoman. In 2002, Bolaño also faced a controversy when he went berserk and maligned the Talisay City police chief.

The incident is under investigation./gabriel bonjoc
