LIU MURDER CASE

THE CEBU Provincial Police Office yesterday said they believe Bernard Liu knew his killers.

“Kaila ra gyud ni sa biktima ang gapatay niya,” Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador Jr. said.

He said they are looking into the angle of robbery since the whistleblower lost his .45 pistol and a metal urn containing his father’s ashes that has a gold bracelet on top.

However, Comendador said they are not closing other motives behind the killing.

Talisay City police will  follow up the operation.

Liu and his co-employee Ananias Dy implicated two Cebu businessmen in a 2001 congressional hearing on illegal drugs.

Dy was killed on July 2006 while Liu was discovered dead outside his residence in Talisay City last week with ligature marks around his neck.

Autopsy showed he was killed more than two weeks ago but not more than a month./correspondent gabriel bonjoc

Pasil ‘drowning’

A 57-YEAR-OLD woman was found floating  dead yesterday dawn in Pasil, Cebu City.

Elizabeth Paro was discovered by banca passengers floating lifeless in the seawater of Pasil.

Police investigation revealed that the victim, a paralytic who had difficulty walking,  was discovered missing by his son Welmer, 33, around 1 a.m.

Welmer said he thought his mother only went to the nearby fish port.

Police believed the victim slid off from the cliff and drowned. Although there was no sign of foul play since the  victim bore no physical injuries, the incident is still under investigation./correspondent rhea ruth rosell

Foiled rape

A 21-YEAR-OLD woman foiled a rape attempt while she was on her way to their comfort room outside their house in barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City, on Sunday dawn.

The victim reported the incident to the Subangdaku police precinct after the perpetrator fled.

Police initial investigation revealed that the victim was on her way to the toilet around 2 a.m. when a man grabbed her and poked a bladed weapon at her throat, which prompted her to shout for help.

The man, whom the victim could not identify because it was dark, fled but dropped the 11-inch knife in the site.
