Schools help make Malate safer

Students in Malate, Manila can expect safer streets around their campuses as three schools are helping the local police provide security to the area.

The De La Salle University, College of St. Benilde (CSB) and St. Scholastica’s College recently donated police outposts to the Malate police as well as identification cards for pedicab drivers in a bid to promote a peaceful and orderly environment outside their schools.

According to Lito Tabangcura, CSB safety and security director, the six new police outposts will promote police visibility in the Malate area.

He said the ID cards would be given to pedicab drivers who were certified members of a local association. Cans of paint will also be donated so that members’ pedicabs will have a uniform look and color.

Supt. Aquino Olivar, station commander of the Malate police, said the donations of the schools would be put to good use.–Nathaniel R. Melican with Andronico M. del Rosario, trainee
