PH gov’t denounces killing of CNN cameraman

Malacañang on Friday denounced the assassination of a CNN Philippines assistant cameraman.
“We condemn the killing of CNN Philippines’ employee Jonathan Oldan,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a statement.

Coloma said the Philippine National Police (PNP) has been ordered “to pursue those who may have been responsible for his death so that the ends of justice may be served.”
The statement followed that of CNN Philippines, which demanded swift justice for their colleague.

Article continues after this advertisementOldan, 29, was shot dead on his way to work from Imus, Cavite on Thursday morning. He was shot several times in the head.
His colleagues said they do not know anyone who might have a grudge or a motive in killing Oldan, who doubled as a driver for CNN Philippines.
If investigation shows that his assassination was work-related, Oldan will be the third media worker killed in 2015, the 27th under the Aquino administration and the 167th since the restoration of democracy in 1986, according to the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines.

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said the National Bureau of Investigation is already looking into the crime. His case will be assigned to a Special Investigation Team if preliminary evidence would show that the killing was work-related.
