The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has reduced the approved budget for the refurbishment of the existing precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines.
The Comelec said the budget for the repair of the 81,896 old PCOS units has been reduced from the original P2.9 billion to P2.1 billion.
The budget reduction was prompted by the removal of one component of the project, which is the replacement of unrepairable PCOS units with new machines.
There are three companies that have bought the bid documents for the PCOS repair deal, namely Smartmatic-Total Information Management Corp., Indra Sistemas S.A. and Vertex.
The submission of eligibility requirements and technical proposal for the PCOS repair deal is scheduled on June 30, on or before 9 a.m.
