THE WATER level of Angat Dam continues to move closer to the critical level for drinking water, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
On early Monday, June 22, 2015, water level fell to 172.66 meters near the 160 meters critical level for drinking water and below the 180 meters critical level for irrigation.
The day before, water level of Angat Dam was recorded at 172.85 meters.
This is despite the frequent rains brought about by thunderstorms over the past few days. Pagasa earlier said the onset of the rainy season was imminent as indicated by these days of rain.
Around 97 per cent of Metro Manila’s domestic water needs and irrigation for 27,000 hectares of agricultural land in Bulacan and Pampanga are provided by Angat Dam.
Pagasa added that water levels in other dams also fell on Sunday including Ipo: 100.37 from 100.44 meters; Binga: 570.84 from 571.04 meters; San Roque: 236.00 from 236.37 meters; and Magat: 181.9 from 182.34 meters. Arianne F. Merez, Inquirer.net intern
