American real estate mogul Donald Trump, 69, ranks 405th among the world’s richest, with a net worth of $4.1 billion, according to Forbes Magazine.
However, Trump, in announcing his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, claimed that his net worth was nearly $9 billion.
“This discrepancy is noteworthy, since Trump’s financial success—which he put at exactly $8,737,540,000—is core to his candidacy,” Forbes said.
Forbes said that the major difference was his brand, which Trump claimed include deals worth some $3.3 billion but the magazine valued at just $125 million.
Trump, chair and president of the Trump Organization, started his business career working for his father’s construction company before turning it into a massive empire.
Among the properties under the Trump signature include the 40 Wall Street, Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue and Doral golf resort in Miami.
In the Philippines, Century Properties partnered with Trump Organization for the Trump Tower at Century City.
Apart from real estate, Trump, a native of New York City, has interests in sports and entertainment. Forbes notes that his brand continues to grow with appearances at reality series “Apprentice,” books, speaking engagements, Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants and menswear at Macy’s.–Inquirer Research
