Indian man lived with sister’s corpse for six months–report

An Indian man whose mental stability was still being determined by psychologists lived with the corpse of his sister for six months, a report by Gulf News said.

During police investigation on his father’s death in their home in Kolkata, Partha De told authorities that the skeletons of his sister Debjani, who died about six months ago, were also in the house.

The report said Partha was “behaving suspiciously” while being interrogated regarding the charred body of his father Arabinda found in the bathroom, which led to the confession and the discovery of Debjani’s remains.

Partha said his sister died due to fasting when the latter got depressed following the death of their pets, the report added.

“He also told us that Debjani was depressed due to the death of their pet dogs and shunned eating which eventually led to her death,” said Murli Dhar, deputy commissioner of the Kolkata Police south division.

The police officer added that Partha appeared to be “mentally unstable and refused to cremate her sister or dispose of the dead dog.”

Dhar said Partha was detained for questioning.

“There is also evidence suggesting he used to feed the skeletons. We are probing all aspects and seeking help of medical experts to ascertain Partha’s mental status,” he said, adding that evidence suggested Partha could not accept his sister’s death.

The report said Debjani’s skeletons were collected for autopsy, while police officers were still probing the death of their father. Yuji Gonzales/RC
