The teenage granddaughter of a retired police official was killed when she accidentally fell from the roof of a five-story building in Camp Karingal, the headquarters of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), on Wednesday night.
Fifteen-year-old Jerricka Raine Lagmay, whose family operates a canteen inside the police camp in Barangay (village) Botocan, Diliman, was rushed to the nearby AFP Medical Center shortly after she fell at 6:30 p.m. However, she succumbed to her injuries at 9:35 p.m.
The incident happened at the QCPD quarters, a two-building housing project for police personnel assigned to Camp Karingal and their families.
According to a report from the quarters’ president SPO4 Rosauro Silvestre, the teenager was on her way to meet her boyfriend at the roof of one of the buildings when she fell.
Based on the text messages found on the victim’s cell phone, she and her 24-year-old boyfriend agreed to meet at the rooftop of Building A at 6:30 p.m. But because the area was full of people at that time, he told her to go to the roof of the other building instead.
The victim, who was already at the agreed upon meeting place, decided to cross to Building B by walking on the plastic roofing sheet in between the two structures instead of going down the stairs to get to the other building.
The plastic roofing sheet, however, gave way, causing her to fall.–Jaymee T. Gamil
