Bigtime drug dealer yields P225M shabu
The Quezon City police made its biggest drug haul for the year on Thursday after it arrested a bigtime drug supplier who yielded 45 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride, or “shabu,” with a street value of P225 million.
Gary Go alias Edgar Yu, a 54-year-old native of Cebu province, was caught with his girlfriend, Sierralyn Borromeo alias Louren Cuenco, in an entrapment operation in Barangay (village) Phil-Am, Quezon City.
Antinarcotics group head Chief Insp. Robert Razon said that an undercover policeman made the transaction with Go for five kilos of shabu priced at P1 million each. They agreed to meet at 6:30 a.m. Thursday on West Avenue, near the corner of Bulacan Street.
The couple were arrested after they showed up for the transaction. A search of their car yielded, on top of the five kilos, 40 more kilos of suspected high-grade shabu packed into three sports bags, according to Quezon City Police District director Chief Supt. Joel Pagdilao.
He said that Go was most likely “high up” in the narcotics supply rung since he could dictate prices. “He was able to sell the illegal drugs for P1 million per kilo which is far cheaper compared to the street value of P5 million per kilo,” Pagdilao added.
Following a monthlong surveillance, Go was identified as the supplier of Qiu Yuqian, 42, a Chinese national caught with P16-million worth of drugs during an entrapment operation on May 3 in Barangay East Kamias, Quezon City.

Razon, whose team had monitored Go’s movements in Metro Manila and nearby provinces, said: “We hope this spells a huge reduction [in the narcotics supply]. If these had reached the streets, there would be more addicts.”
Pagdilao said drug users usually buy less than a gram at a time. “So this [arrest] will have a huge effect on supply reduction and the reduction of users,” he added.
