Senate President Franklin Drilon on Thursday vowed to push for the proposed anti-political dynasty measure when Congress resumes its sessions in July.
Congress adjourned sine die on Wednesday, June 10, 2015.
“Ako mismo ang magtutulak niyan. Matagal na po iyang aking tinutulak. Admittedly, hindi madali, pero akin pong itutulak ulit sa aming pagbalik sa session,” Drilon said in an interview over DZRH when asked about the measure, which remained pending at the House of Representatives.
(I myself will push for it. I’ve long been pushing for it. Admittedly, it’s not easy but I will push for it again when session resumes.)
Asked why political dynasties should be abolished, the Senate leader said: “Dahil sa akin po, ang karunungan sa serbisyo publiko cannot be a monopoly of one family. Yaan po ay nasa ating Saligang Batas, at yaan po ay dapat ipairal natin sa pamamagitan ng ating panukalang batas na ating itutulak sa Senado.”

(Because public service cannot be a monopoly of one family. That’s in the Constitution and we should follow it through a legislation that we’re proposing.)
Drilon earlier expressed confidence that the proposed measure would get the support of his colleagues in the Senate. IDL
