Vice President Jejomar Binay on Wednesday said that he hopes that President Benigno Aquino III would consider him as the administration’s candidate in the 2016 polls.

In a media forum at the Luneta Hotel, Binay said that an endorsement from Aquino could translate to votes.

“Lahat ng dagdag boto, inaasahan. Nandun ang paniniwala ko na kokonsiderahin ako (Each additional vote is being expected. I believe that I will be considered by President Aquino),” Binay said.

“Basta hanggang sa huling sandali, umaasa ako na ikokonsidera ako (Until the last minute, I am hoping that I will be considered (by the president)),” he added.

The vice president said that it is the President’s prerogative to consider him as his successor.

Meanwhile, he maintained that he enjoys popular support from the rural areas despite the corruption allegations lodged against him which have been exposed in the media

He said that presidential surveys only influence voters from urban areas.

“Tingnan ninyo ang naiimpluwensiyahan ng media ay urban. Ang rural, sabi ‘di totoo iyan, pulitika lang iyan (The urban voters are the ones being influenced by surveys. Voters from rural areas dispute that, saying that it’s just politics),” Binay said.

Binay remains to be the frontrunner in presidential surveys.
