An intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is affecting Southern Mindanao bringing rain to much of the island, the state weather bureau said Wednesday.

“Cloudy skies with light to moderate to rains and thunderstorms will be experienced over the regions of Northern Mindanao, ARMM, Davao, SOCCSKSARGEN and Zamboanga Peninsula,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

The ITCZ is a region where winds from different directions merge, making it a potential breeding ground for low pressure areas.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening will prevail over the rest of the country.

Light to moderate winds blowing from the east to southeast will prevail over the archipelago, which will have coastal waters that are slight to moderate.
