Even as car theft incidents have gone down in recent weeks, the Philippine National Police has reminded car owners to be vigilant against car thieves, particularly between midnight and early morning.
It issued the warning even as car theft and carjacking incidents in Metro Manila went down to 14 cases per week in May, compared to a weekly average of 39 incidents from December 2013 to June 2014.
Based on data from the PNP Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management, there were 295 incidents of car theft from Jan. 5 to May 24 this year. Of the total, 183, or 63 percent, happened from 12:01 a.m. to 8 am.
It advised the public to always park in safe, secure and well-lighted places or areas, install security devices and lock car windows and doors at all times.
