Singaporean man charged for asking girl, 9, to beg

SINGAPORE – A man was charged in court on Friday with asking a nine-year-old child under his care to beg for money.

James Raj David Jelvaras, 35, allegedly instructed the girl to beg for money at a multi-storey carpark at Block 516 Woodlands Drive 14 on Dec 30 last year, and again at Block 515 on April 26 this year.

No plea was taken.

He will appear in court again on June 19. Bail of $5,000 was offered.

If convicted under the Children and Young Persons Act, he can be fined up to $2,000 and/or jailed for up to 12 months on each charge. KS
