Following the installation of 32 security cameras in Pasay City in May, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will deploy another batch of closed circuit television cameras in a busy area in Caloocan City.
On the orders of Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, NCRPO head Police Director Carmelo Valmoria said 34 more CCTV cameras will be installed at the Bonifacio-Monumento area, where over 170,000 commuters pass through daily.
The Bonifacio-Monumento area is one of the seven crime-prone areas identified by the Philippine National Police. Other places where rising crimes are reported include Pasay Rotonda; University Belt area and De La Salle University along Taft Avenue in Manila; MRT North Edsa station along West Avenue and Edsa Cubao-Aurora Boulevard in Quezon City, and Redemptorist or Baclaran Church in Parañaque City.
“Magiging kasangkapan ang mga ito para mas mabilis na mahuli at mapanagot sa batas kung sino man ang gumawa ng krimen,” Roxas said in a statement on Friday.
Valmoria said “Project SAFE KAm” cost about P900,000, which would be financed through a partnership between the private sector and the PNP.
The Roxas-initiated project, which is under the intensified campaign “Oplan Lambat-Sibat,” was mapped out to reduce crime incidents in Metro Manila.
“Kasama ito sa ating programa na hindi bara-bara o patsamba-tsamba, hindi kanya-kanya at hindi ningas cogon,” Roxas said. “Nais natin na pairalin ang batas sa paraang deliberate, programmatic at sustained upang maramdaman ng ating mamamayan ang kaligtasan sa ating mga lansangan.” With John Lester Alos/RC
