In time for the wedding month of June, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle has a reminder to unwed couples: Don’t fear Church marriage.
In a statement over Radyo Veritas, Tagle encouraged couples to open themselves to the sacrament of matrimony, saying it would be one way of being united with Christ and the society.
“Ang misyon ng buhay may-asawa ay magmahal katulad ng pagmamahal ni Kristo (The mission of married couples is to love the way Christ loves us),” he said.
“At sa pagmamahal na ‘yan , maging bukas sa buhay, maging involved sa community, lalo na sa simbahan (And through that love, couples will be open to life and involved in the community, especially the Church),” he added.
Tagle also said marriage and family life should require the guidance of faith, which could be provided by Church unions.
“Matrimony is a very beautiful sacrament, there’s no reason to be afraid of it,” he said. RC
