Tractor head driver dies in Quezon City crash

A 28-year-old tractor head driver died on the spot when he apparently fell asleep behind the wheel Wednesday morning and crashed his vehicle into the gates of a real estate company in Quezon City.

According to a police report, witnesses said the tractor head driven by Patrick Morados was running quite fast on Quirino Highway in Barangay Baesa when it suddenly swerved left, hit the concrete barriers dividing the road and went over to the opposite lane.

It then rammed into the gates of the Kainos Development Corp. building, causing the concrete archway to fall on top of the truck, pinning Morados by the neck.

It took around two hours for responding personnel from the Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety to get the victim out of the vehicle.

By the time they freed him, he was already dead although responders believed he may have died within minutes of being pinned inside the vehicle.

The vehicle was headed for Novaliches from Balintawak when the accident happened around 5 a.m., according to Insp. Josefina Cuartero, chief of the traffic sector with jurisdiction over the area. Supt. Ely Pintang, head of the Quezon City police traffic enforcement unit, said that Morados may have fallen asleep while driving.

“Skid marks [on the road] showed [he] stepped on the brakes but it seems it might have been a little too late,” Pintang added. According to him, Morados may have been off-duty since he was without a helper. Jaymee T. Gamil with Deany Cheng
