CEBU CITY, Philippines – Two persons, including a four-year-old boy, were killed while five others were injured past noon Tuesday when a dump truck carrying sand and gravel, lost its brakes and hit a house in Sitio Apid Acro, Barangay (village) Cantabaco, Toledo City, about 50 kilometers west of here.
The truck fell to its side, destroying the entire house, which was made of light materials.
The bodies of Measy Chila Alisoso, 19, and James Kyle Selgas, 4, were retrieved from the house that collapsed, said PO3 Julius Sanchez, traffic investigator.
Four other occupants were brought to the South General Hospital in Naga City, Cebu.
They were Remonda Largo, 70 who owned the house; her son Joven, 43; and grandchildren Levi Largo, 3, and Jake Selgas, 3.
Truck driver Johnrey Sarita, 29, a native of Cagayan de Oro City, managed to jump from the truck before it hit the house of Largo family.
Still, his right foot was run over by the rear tire of the truck, said Sanchez.
Police investigation showed the dump truck with plate number JEW 108 was heading to Talisay City, from Balamban town to deliver sand and gravel.
Sanchez claimed that he was maneuvering a downhill road when the truck lost its brakes. The truck swerved to the house where the Largos were relaxing inside after eating lunch. SFM/ABC
