THE anti-illegal drugs unit of the Philippine National Police is considering the recent conviction of a Chinese national a big victory against the drug menace in the country.
Senior Superintendent Benjamin Lusad, chief of the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force, expressed his elation on the decision of a Paranaque City court that sentenced Beni Chua Ang to double life imprisonment for selling and possessing several kilos of shabu or metamphetamine hydrochloride.
In a 19-page decision, Judge Danilo Suarez of branch 259 Paranaque City regional trial court, gave the Chinese drug lord two life imprisonment terms along with a fine of P10 million.
With the conviction of Ang, who was arrested in 2012, Lusad said he is optimistic that more bigtime drug lords will be sent to jail.
“This is another triumph for our men and women as well as the community. A pusher in jail saves a lot of our youth,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Lusad also urged AIDSOTF operatives to draw inspiration from the court’s decision and asked them to strive more in delivering “high-impact” operations against illegal drugs to make a dent in the rampant drug problem in the country.
AIDSOTF men arrested Ang in a sting operation at the parking lot of a mall in Barangay (village) Tambo. He was nabbed after selling one kilogram of shabu for P3 million to a police deep cover agent.
Police also found three red foil packs of Chinese tea containing three kilograms of shabu in Ang’s backpack. AC
