4,000 families homeless after Pagadian fire

ABOUT 4,000 families were affected when fire hit a vast residential area in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Tuesday.

The fire broke out at about 12 noon in Barangay (village) Santiago on Monday and spread to the villages of San Pedro and Kawit due to strong winds.

The NDRRMC said the affected families had been forced to stay at the parking area of Gaisano mall.

The Office of Civil Defense in Pagadian assisted the local disaster risk reduction and management council in providing relief to the victims.

The Red Cross in Zamboanga del Sur provided medical assistance to the injured victims, the NDRRMC said, but did not say how many were hurt.
