Magis eagles sweep milo best titles
THE SACRED HEART School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles completed a clean sweep of the titles in the 2011 Milo-backed Best Tournament Cebu leg as they captured the Small Basketeers of the Philippines (SBP) crown for the second year in a row after they beat the University of San Carlos North Baby Warriors, 31-24, last Saturday at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation gym.
The title victory gave SHS-AdC a coupe as both their SBP and Passerelle division squads will be going to Capiz for the Visayas regional finals later this month.
The battle for third place game was won by the Cebu Eastern College Dragons, 49-44.
The possibility looked murky at best though as USC tied the game at 23-all heading to the final period as they overhauled a 12-19 deficit at halftime behind a 9-0 run anchored on Michael Yu, Joseph Fontanosa and Matt Empleo.
The Magis Eagles went to work in the final canto which was kicked off by a difficult jumper by Carlos Canoy, a free-throw by John Chen, a fastbreak lay-in by John Chen and a short stab by Matthew Amante that put them in front, 28-21. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
