Senator Poe still mum on 2016 plans
Sen. Grace Poe has not yet decided whether or not to run for a higher post in 2016.
Asked over dzMM radio on Friday when she intended to make a decision, Poe said in Filipino: “Before October, I think.”
The Commission on Elections has set the filing of certificates of candidacy for those running in the May elections from Oct. 12 to 16.
“Let the others announce if they are ready because that (running) is part of their plans,” she said. “As for me, I’m just surprised because I’m still new in government, so there are many things to consider before making a decision.”
Poe also could not yet answer if she was running for President or vice president, but said she preferred to be an independent candidate should she aspire for the highest position in the country.
This is despite offers made to her by various political groups like the Liberal Party (LP), which courts her to be the running mate of presumptive standard-bearer Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, who also has yet to declare his presidential bid.
