Winds are a’changing, literally.
The hot dry winds called easterlies are starting to give way to the southwest monsoon (habagat) that blows during the rainy season.
“We are in the transition period. As of now the winds are changing,” said meteorologist Gener Quitlong of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
The rainy season is expected to start in a few weeks or by mid-June, according to Pagasa’s calculation.
In the meantime, the country is in the grip of a “weak” El Niño that has resulted in drought, or dry spell, in over 40 provinces.–Dona Z. Pazzibugan
