On May 28, 1898, the Philippine flag was first unfurled in the country. In 1965, President Diosdado Macapagal declared May 28 of every year National Flag Day. In 1994, President Fidel Ramos extended the celebration of National Flag Day from May 28 to June 12. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
