The first constitution of the Philippine Independent Church was signed on Oct. 1, 1902, in Manila. Also known as the Aglipayan Church after its first bishop, nationalist and former Roman Catholic priest Gregorio Aglipay, it was created on Aug. 3, 1902, as a Christian denomination with an independent Filipino clergy. Aglipay celebrated his first Mass under the church 26 days after the constitution was signed.—Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
