Malaysian woman rescued from ‘abusive’ husband in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Police authorities here have rescued a Malaysian woman from her Filipino husband, who has allegedly been physically and emotionally abusing her.

Senior Supt. Angelito Casimiro, city police director, said Munirah Ali Mohamed, 23, was successfully rescued from her husband of two years, Datu Dakula – also known as Datu Asibi – during a police operation in Barangay (village) Baliwasan on Tuesday.

Casimiro said Mohamed’s case was referred to them by the Malaysian government after she contacted her family in Sapang, Malaysia, and complained about the abuses she has been suffering from Dakula.

The Malaysian woman eloped with Dacula in March 2013 and after marrying him under Islamic rites in Buan, Sandakan, agreed to settle here.

Police have taken custody of Dakula and charges were being prepared against him, Casimiro said, adding that Mohamed would be turned over to the Malaysian consulate. SFM/AC
