Fire destroys P85M worth of property, merchandise in Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY, Philippines–Fire destroyed P85 million worth of merchandise and property early Thursday in Sta. Barbara town, Iloilo.

Fire Officer 2 Rey Tabudlong, arson investigator of the Sta. Barbara Fire Station, said that they were still investigating what caused the fire that engulfed the City Star warehouse owned by Mr. And Mrs. Wilson Tan.

Firefighters on the scene declared a fire-out before noon Thursday.

The warehouse served as the storage of several commercial establishments in Iloilo City.

Firefighters found it hard to stop the fire because of the stocks stored in the warehouse like fabrics, plastic wares, slippers, school supplies, gadgets, appliances and other merchandise.

Despite the losses, Tabdulong was happy that no one was injured because the owner conformed with construction standards.

The municipality of Sta. Barbara will be the venue of the Independence Day flag-raising ceremonies on June 12, 2015, to be led by President Benigno Aquino III.
