Salceda to run for House seat
LEGAZPI CITY—Albay Gov. Joey Salceda announced on Sunday that he would run for a seat in the House of Representatives representing the second congressional district of Albay under the ruling Liberal Party (LP) in elections next year.
Salceda’s announcement came after he registered on Friday as a voter of Daraga town in Albay in compliance with the six-month residency requirement of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for all candidates seeking local positions.
Salceda said he went alone to register. “I wanted it to be totally my own decision. So, telling no one and on the first thing in morning and without fanfare I registered as voter of Daraga, Albay,” he said.
The second district covers Legazpi City and the towns of Daraga, Camalig, Manito and Rapu-Rapu. It is currently represented by second-term Rep. Al Francis Bichara (Nacionalista Party).
