LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines– A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck parts of Bicol region close to midnight Wednesday.
Eduardo Laguerta, resident volcanologist of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs)-Legazpi, said the quake occurred at 11:55 p.m. Its epicenter was in Rapu-Rapu, Albay, at a depth of 16 kilometers.
It was felt at Intensity 3 in Legazpi City and Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon.
The quake was tectonic in origin, he said.
At 1 a.m. Thursday, a 4.7 magnitude aftershock was recorded at a depth of 6 kilometers south of Rapu-Rapu, Laguerta said.
Laguerta said no damage had been reported.
