De Lima: No breach of confidentiality in reporting freeze of Binay assets
Justice Secretary Leila de Lima believed there was no breach of confidentiality when members of the media reported the freezing of assets of Vice President Jejomar Binay, his wife Elenita, son Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay and alleged dummies.
“There is only prohibition of disclosures if the case is still under investigation of AMLC,” De Lima told reporters on Wednesday.
“I don’t think such prohibition applies to reporting by media of a court case—especially issuance of a court order like freeze order,” she said.
De Lima, who is reportedly being eyed as part of the senatorial lineup of the ruling Liberal Party, said, “I think the media has the right to report those developments of the case.”
“Jurisprudence is replete with cases recognizing the media’s right to report on that,” she added.
