3 soldiers hurt in ambush by suspected BIFF rebels

COTABATO CITY–At least three soldiers were wounded in an ambush staged by suspected Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) gunmen in the town of Shariff Aguak in Maguindanao on Saturday morning.

Capt. Jo-Ann Petinglay, spokesperson of the military’s 6th Infantry Division, said an improvised explosive device was detonated in Barangay Timbangan at around 8:58 a.m. while an M35 truck carrying government forces was passing.

After the explosion, the soldiers immediately maneuvered and engaged the BIFF in a 5-minute firefight, Petinglay said.
