CITY OF CAUAYAN—The approach of Typhoon “Dodong” forced Gov. Faustino Dy III on Friday to reset the celebration of the 159th Isabela Day as well as the National Cooperative Congress scheduled here this weekend.
Originally scheduled to be celebrated on Sunday, Isabela Day will be celebrated instead on Monday.
The cooperative congress was rescheduled for June 12-13.
“We cannot risk the safety of the participants and guests of both the Isabela Day and the National Cooperative Congress,” Dy said.
Isabela, named in honor of Queen Isabella II of Spain, will celebrate its 159th founding anniversary with trade fairs, arts and culture events, a sports festival and a beauty pageant.
In Aurora, the province where Dodong (international name: Noul) was also likely to strike, was sunny on Friday.
The weather bureau’s watch point at Aurora capital Baler said Dodong was still far in the seas off Borongan, Samar province.
But thunderstorms struck Baguio City and some towns in the Cordillera region on Friday. Reports from Villamor Visaya Jr., Inquirer Northern Luzon, and Tonette Orejas, Inquirer Central Luzon
