‘Dodong’ intensifies, signal No. 1 up in 15 provinces

Typhoon Dodong (Noul) intensified and accelerated further late Friday, prompting the weather bureau to raise storm signals in more provinces.

Dodong packed maximum sustained winds of 160 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 195 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

Signal No. 2 remains hoisted in Catanduanes.

Signal No. 1 was raised in Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Quezon including Polilo Island, Aurora, Quirino, Isabela, Cagayan, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Kalinga, Northern and Eastern Samar.

The typhoon, seen to make landfall over Isabela-Cagayan area on Sunday, was last observed 415 kilometers east of Sorsogon City.

Dodong moved 22 kph, bringing heavy to intense rains within the 300 kilometer diameter.
