The head of the Philippine National Police’s Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO), who recently proposed the simplification of gun license processing through online application, has been relieved of his post.

“Yes, I am relieved of the post. I don’t know the reason. I just follow orders like a good soldier,” FEO chief Dennis Siervo said in a text message to INQUIRER.net.

Effective May 6, Siervo will be replaced as the PNP FEO officer in charge by Senior Superintendent Elmo Sarona.

Sarona is formerly the regional chief of the Central Luzon police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit.

Last Monday, Siervo presented to the media the FEO’s simplified requirements in applying for license to own and possess firearms (LTOPF) and permit to carry firearms outside residence (PTCFOR) after some gun owners complained of “redundant and excessive” requirements.

Siervo also proposed the online application of LTOPF and PTCFOR and vowed to activate it by the end of the year. IDL
